Speed
Bumps
Disappointments
are like speed bumps; they slow you down a bit but you will enjoy the
smooth road afterward.
If
there is one thing I hate when I am driving, it is speed bumps. Why do
they call them speed bumps? There is no speed going on when I venture
over those lumps in the road.
I
understand they are in the parking lot to slow down folks and keep pedestrians
safe.
Similarly,
if there is one thing I hate in life it is disappointments. I can be moving
along enjoying life and then, wham, disappointment. You probably been
there. You didn't make the first team, that girl or boy dumped you,and
kicked you to the curb, you lost a big account at work, that raise never
happened, and the list goes on and on and on!
The
word of God says, We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we
are not crushed and broken. We are perplexed, but we don't give up and
quit. We are hunted down, but God never abandons us. We get knocked down,
but we get back up again, and keep going. Through suffering, these bodies
of ours constantly share in the death of Jesus so that the life of Jesus
may also be seen in our bodies. 2Chorinthians 4:8-10
Do
not throw away this confident trust in the Lord, no matter what happens.
Remember the great reward it brings you! Patient endurance is what you
need now, so you will continue to do Gods will. Then you will receive
all that he has promised. Hebrews
10:35-36
In
the middle of disappointment we must remind ourselves "God never
abandon us." He is there. He is walking with you. He may even
be carrying you.
What
in the world does "patient endurance" mean? I think the writer
of Hebrews is telling us the easy way way out is the give up way. In the
McDonald's drive-thru type of life we live in, it is easier to take the
shortcut. It is easier to choose flight versus fight. God is calling us
to be patient, to endure, to stay true to Him and to His will!
The
awesome part of any disappointment in life is that they never last. There
is always a smooth road waiting just over the bump. What disappointments
are you dealing with today? Hang in there, be patient, and God will pave
a way!
